SSD-Guide

A manual protocol for interpretation.

The SSD Guide is the manual representation of the SSD framework. This rubric-based guidebook—including Layers, Entries, Tips, and Outputs—helps a human analyst move from observable evidence toward a structured critical reading.

Every entry uses one of three output labels. TAG / READ asks the user to read and understand the entry’s analytical meaning;FILL / WRITE asks for a written interpretation that follows the entry prompt; and CHOICE / SELECT asks the user to choose one option from a set of three or four and then write the corresponding output.

Theory becomes the prompt.

The SSD Guide translates the intersection of three theoretical traditions into a practical form. Psychoanalysis provides the foundation, film studies provides a model for theoretical transformation, and media art theory provides principles for approaching Computational Media Art. Together they generate the Guide’s three layers and thirty-five entries.

Manual analysis with the SSD Guidebook begins by selecting one target CMA artwork and collecting its available online materials. The user then works through the rubric’s analytical prompts to produce a structured interpretation.

The local MVP stores drafts and completed outputs only in this browser. Nothing is published to a shared online archive.

Analysis records.

Each completed use of the Guide becomes one Manual Interpretive Output. Different analysts may interpret the same artwork differently; their records remain independent rather than being merged into a standard answer.
