SSD is an interpretive framework for reading how a Computational Media Artwork presents, structures, and speaks.

The artwork is not an object.
The SSD framework treats an artwork as a subject of interpretation, not merely as an object composed of media and technology. It asks why the work speaks, how its parts organize meaning, and what tensions remain unresolved.
The SSD framework operates as a concept, a mindset, and a theory. It doesnot claim that an artwork possesses a human mind or a biological unconscious; it uses Lacanian concepts to read how a work occupies a position in language and speech and, through that position, articulates its own unconscious truth.
Beyond media classification.
Conventional media-based classifications answer questions about medium, devices, interaction, and format. They do not always explain how a complex work produces meaning or knowledge through its explicit and implicit expression, its organizational mechanisms, and its relationship to the public.
The SSD framework adds a complementary interpretive axis:from medium-oriented classification toward subject-oriented interpretation. Subject, Structure, and Discourse open new critical and aesthetic dimensions for understanding how an artwork constructs meaning, positions itself, and addresses a public.
For Computational Media Art.
The target of analysis is an individual Computational Media Artwork. Sources may include artist statements, images, video documentation, technical descriptions, exhibition materials, audience responses, academic reviews, and other relevant records.
An SSD output is an open, structured interpretation—not a quality score or a uniquely correct answer. Its claims remain influenced by the available material, the analyst, the model where one is used, and the surrounding context.

The SSD framework offers a common analytical entrance while allowing people with different knowledge and positions to reach different readings.
Layers and entries.
The SSD framework is influenced by psychoanalysis—especially Lacanian theories of the subject—and by structural linguistics. It transforms concepts drawn from film studies, new media art theory, and artistic practice into an interpretive method for art.
This theoretical transformation produces three analytical layers—Subject, Structure, and Discourse—each organized through a set of entries.
